How does high altitudes affect the circuit breaker performance?

Christian Cingolani, Global Product Marketing Manager LTB

ABB's answer

The external dielectric strength becomes reduced at higher altitudes due to the lower density of air. Standard dielectric type tests are valid for installations up to 1000 masl. For verification of the suitability of installation at higher altitudes the test voltages has to be corrected. Correction factor according to standard has to be used for external insulation.
