Do the composite insulators require cleaning and if so, how?

Pol Peny, Vice President Cable Accessories

ABB's answer

If the insulators have been exposed to extreme pollution during installation or service they can be cleaned using commercially available solvents. Do not use excessive force when washing the sheds (e.g. do not use water pressure washers directly on the sheds). Wipe away oil spills from the silicone using a clean towel as soon as possible. For mild pollution, use water and a weak basic detergent and then rinse with water. For heavier pollution, use alcohol and clean towel to clean the polluted area.
