Why do we use AC motor for tap changers instead of DC motor?

The substation auxiliary power dictates the motor type/voltages, multiple voltage levels are available with different motors types:
• Single or three-phase AC motors with various voltage levels both for 50 and 60 Hz are available
• DC motors with various voltage levels are also available
