I have heard that dry-type transformers can only be used in indoor installations and always need an enclosure. Is this correct?

ABB's answer

Dry-type transformers can be used in both indoor and outdoor installations. Indoors they can be installed without an enclosure if located in a separate transformer room, or protected from direct touch by a simple fence. For outdoor installations, an appropriate enclosure is needed. Enclosures with various degrees of protection are available, enabling the units to operate under extreme environmental conditions and withstand heavy pollution.
