Does the control and protection system for GIS differ from an AIS substation?

Olav Knudsen , Principal Engineer, Gas-insulated switchgear

ABB's answer

Aside from shorter cable runs, control and protection is very similar to AIS substations. Each bay of the GIS is equipped with a control cubicle containing all the equipment needed for control, signaling and supervision. A communication link to the network control center enables the remote control of the entire substation. Interlocks provide protection for service staff when carrying out inspections and maintenance.
