If we are using FAES, is it necessary to use Maintenance Earthing Switch? Why ?

Olav Knudsen , Principal Engineer, Gas-insulated switchgear

ABB's answer

If a FAES is installed in a section of the switchgear, it is technically not necessary to use an additional maintenance earthing switch or an external ground connection. The position of the FAES can be checked through a viewport and the drive can be mechanically locked (via padlock) to provide a safe working environment.
