What is the difference between a GTO and an IGCT?

Katja Fröhlich, Communications Manager

ABB's answer

The IGCT is a hard driven GTO. Hard driving is enabled by the integrated gate unit of the IGCT (Integrated Gate-Commutated Thyristor). Thus, IGCTs can be operated without the need of a snubber.
