What is the main use of current transformers (CTs) and how is a CT's performance measured?

Nicholas S Powers, Global Product Marketing Manager Instrument Transformers

ABB's answer

Current transformers (CTS) are used in Electrical Power system to provide reduced current replicas for metering, controls, and protective relaying. CT's performance is characterized by turns ratio, turns ratio error (ratio correction factor), phase angle error, saturation voltage, and rated secondary circuit load (burden) To know more, pls refer to the Instrument Transformers Application Guide here: http://search.abb.com/library/Download.aspx?DocumentID=1HSM 9543 40-00en&LanguageCode=en&DocumentPartId=&Action=Launch
