What is the difference between diodes for GTOs and diodes for IGCTs?

Katja Fröhlich, Communications Manager

ABB's answer

For both device types FRD diodes are required. FRD for GTOs are qualified for typical GTO applications while FRDs for IGCTs are qualified for IGCT applications. The di/dt in IGCT applications are typically higher.
