What is the difference between power and HV DC transformer?

ABB's answer

Hi Xavier,

thank you for your question.

An HVDC-transformer is a special purpose transformer forming an integral part in an HVDC converter station. It feeds voltage and current to a converter valve which transforms AC to DC and vice versa. While serving this purpose, it often is subject to special requirements such as DC-stress on the insulation of the transformer.
