What is the purpose of a subsea transformer, and how does this technology fit into the power grid?

Abhishek Rai, Marketing and Sales Manager

ABB's answer

Subsea transformers are most commonly used to connect offshore generating systems, such as groups of wind turbines, to the grid. Subsea transformers are used for feeding subsea pumps and compressors, subsea pipeline heating, SEPDIS (Subsea Distribution Systems), feeding subsea frequency converters, wave Hubs (meant as connection points of wave power stations to grids), tidal turbines, offshore windmill parks. ABB is unique in its ability to supply transformers for subsea installations up to 3 km deep. For more information please visit: http://new.abb.com/products/transformers/special-application
