Can silicon surge voltage suppressors be used if repetitive overvoltage can occur? What happens in case of a thermal overload?

Katja Fröhlich, Communications Manager

ABB's answer

Yes, they are designed for it and there is no aging effect. In case of a thermal overload, the 5SSB products always make a short circuit, and therefore still protect the power semiconductor device.
