Do all type tests need to be made on a complete arrester?

Christer Lannhard, Global Product Marketing Manager Surge Arresters

ABB's answer

In order to verify guaranteed arrester data, the arrester standards specify if the type tests are to be made on complete arresters, units of arresters or on components. Many of the type tests are to be made on scaled-down models of the complete arrester, and to correctly represent the performance of the complete arrester during a specific test an arrester section may therefore look different depending on the intended test.
