What are the criteria for mixing different types of transformer oil during the process of topping up oil in a transformer?

Andre Steinberg, Marketing and Sales Manager

ABB's answer

Before mixing two different types or grades of oil, a compatibility test must be performed to confirm they can be mixed. Miscibility of the overall mixture needs to be checked, as well as other parameters, such as inhibited/uninhibited oil, corrosivity, interfacial tension, pour point, dielectric dissipation factor and oxidation stability. It is recommended to consult the manufacturer before any actions are taken.
